In this thought-provoking presentation, we enjoyed a rich discussion on leadership with a deep dive into Lynda's model of "6 practices for mission-driven leaders":
Did you know that 40% of clothese produced do not actually reach the consumers? That 30% of clothes that are bought are never actually worn? That all you need for a clean house is vinegar and water?
Over this inspirational talk, Dorinda shared her Zero-Waste journey over the past 7 years, and the simple steps taken to reduce from 1 bag of refuse per week to half a bag per year. For each of us, it is about accepting the challenge of taking the next small step, which often requires a habit change.
What will your next Zero Waste action be?
In this interactive talk, Dr. Laura Penn pulls back the curtain on what it takes to THRIVE when communicating and shares powerful wisdom about what you can do to show up as the best version of yourself everytime you speak in front of your audience. She reminded us of the power of bringing authenticity and humanity into all our communication: our whole selves, our presence and our love. While many factors may be outside our circle of control - things like how others react, or the PowerPoint format we are given to work with - by making a difference where we can, in our own circle of influence, we will start to change the atmosphere in our workplaces one step at a time.
In this interactive, judement-free session co-led by the three BPW members, we learned to enhance our awareness of uncouscious bias and raise sensitivity to the impact of language and behaviour on others. Deborah, Mayka and Katrina also shared techniques to intervene constructively, empowering us to speak up for ourselves and for others, to have the courage to self-advocate, and to be allies to others!
Over this inspirational talk, Franziska shared not only why it is important to negotiate, but offered advice for negotiation when considering a job offer, namely how, when and items you should consider as part of negotiation. She explained how to evaluate a job offer, negotiate (some of) its aspects and take into account considerations such as timing and setting. She shared extremely useful tips and case studies where people have successfully negotiated or could have done better.
Over this inspirational talk, Jacquline explained why it is so important for women to be involved in politics and where and how each of us can make a difference. Engaged on a topic close to her heart, she told us how we can tackle the issue of domestic violence, aiming to protect the victims, reinforce the monitoring of perpetrators, and limit radicivism, based on two principles: "Whoever strikes, leaves" and better care, not only for the victim but also for the perpetrator.
